A Brief Overview of Managed Service Organizations

Attorney Michael Presley practices law alongside his two sons at Presley Law & Associates, PA, in Wellington, Florida. Through his practice, Michael Presley has served as an attorney for physician-clients seeking to consolidate practice entities into a managed service organization (MSO).

Designed to provide practice management and administrative support services, MSOs assist individual physicians and group practices with a variety of non-clinical tasks, including claims processing, contracting, credentialing, and IT administration. In doing so, MSOs often help to reduce operational costs and enable physicians to focus more on meeting the medical needs of their patients.

Based on a flexible integration model, the MSO can take on the form of an investor-supported business, a joint venture between physicians and hospitals, or an operation managed and owned by a group of practicing physicians. The latter structure gives physicians total control of their practice while enabling them to improve operational efficiencies, enhance patient care, and create the potential for long-term financial growth.
